I've had the Blessing of being married to Ginny for many years. We were married in the early 1970’s. We have three adult children and two grandkids. Everyone is doing well.
Way back when, I received a Bachelor's degree in Recreation Education and Master's degree in Recreation Administration, and worked in municipal Recreation departments in the 1970's. I then decided to explore entrepreneurial business ventures and switched to financial services in the early 1980's, becoming a Certified Financial Planner in 1988. I worked as a personal financial planner for almost 40 years, and retired fairly recently.
In my travels within government work and the private sector, I noticed the behavior of some folks, who were clearly disturbed, angry, or a bit out-of-sorts. I became convinced that, often, at the root of bad behavior is peoples’ unwillingness to forgive those who hurt them, or from peoples’ struggle with forgiving themselves.
Having grown up in a dysfunctional alcoholic family, I certainly knew about anger, fighting, yelling and no apologies from anyone. Both parents had alcoholic parents. They tried numbing their pain with alcohol. The effect on us kids (I was the oldest) was traumatic, and memorable. By God’s grace, I somehow survived childhood.
As a person in business, I certainly met and worked with individuals who were in pain, and did not think twice about cheating or betraying others, to achieve their own goals. They often said one thing, but did something else. Many of these actions were hurtful to others.
A few years ago, I felt that I wanted to write a book about what I'd learned about forgiveness in my own life. These early ideas evolved into a Forgiveness Workbook, which is designed to help others work through their own issues, and to help with becoming Set Free from the many ugly ravages of what I call GRUB--- Grudges, Resentments, Unforgiveness and Bitterness. I can tell you from personal experience that living this way is no way to live.
The Workbook became the main tool for several live workshops I have hosted in recent years. Well over 100 people have attended these workshops sponsored by a Christian Ministry called Worklight, formerly Christian's in Commerce (CIC). I am a big believer in the value of receiving the help of Jesus and the Holy Scriptures in the hard work of forgiving.
I have been an active member of the Worklight Ministry for 36 years. I’ve had the Blessing of attending over 50 Challenge Weekend Retreats sponsored by Worklight, and have traveled to Uganda, to participate in the very first CIC Conference there in 2008.
In my early years in CIC, I was encouraged to begin a daily Appointment with God, a time of daily Prayer with our loving Lord Jesus. I will say that a lot of the material in this website comes directly from early morning prayers and what I believe Jesus and the Holy Spirit want to teach us about forgiveness.
I have no formal training in psychology or medicine, however, I feel that many people can benefit from the ideas and suggestions mentioned in this website. I personally know the feeling of being betrayed and cheated. I know about unfairness and injustice. I know about rancor, hatred and the many ugly effects of not forgiving. I wish I had learned about forgiving a lot sooner in my own life. I wish I’d learned how to forgive many decades ago.
If you have struggled with forgiveness in your own life, I hope you will take a close look at the materials here. I pray and hope for your healing, and that your well-being will be restored. Our loving Lord wants to help us to be Set Free!
